This project in Darnley gave us the opportunity to completely rebuild a garden that had unfortunately been installed incorrectly by a previous contractor. The original sandstone patio had been laid directly onto clay using the five-spot method, without any excavation or proper sub-base preparation, leading to an unstable surface that simply wasn't built to last.
Our clients wanted a garden they could enjoy with complete confidence, combining modern design with quality craftsmanship and long-term durability. From the ground up, every aspect of this transformation was carefully planned and professionally constructed to create a beautiful, low-maintenance outdoor living space.
The first stage of the project involved removing approximately 50 tonnes of unsuitable ground material before importing 25 tonnes of Type 1 aggregate to create a solid, long-lasting foundation. We also installed a new drainage system to ensure effective water management and help protect the garden for years to come.
The centrepiece of the transformation is a stunning Globalstone Serenity Cream porcelain patio, complemented by a raised porcelain seating area finished in the same elegant style. Every porcelain tile was professionally grouted using Flowpoint, providing a durable, weather-resistant finish designed to withstand the Scottish climate.
To soften the design, we installed premium 38mm artificial grass, framed with a smart block border for crisp definition between the paving and lawn. A bespoke sleeper planting bed introduces natural planting opportunities, while Tobermore kerbstones were used to neatly conceal the gap beneath the fencing, creating a polished appearance from every angle.
The finishing touches include decorative white chipped stone borders, adding texture and contrast while completing the clean, contemporary aesthetic.
The result is a stylish, practical garden that's been built on the right foundations and designed to be enjoyed for many years to come.
